Tempus Temporis

2005-2006

Pencil on white paper bag. Ongoing project.

The paper bag drawings are system-based drawings made following a set of rules of my own devising. Each drawing consists of a group of circles. Circles are made next to one another but may not be clustered with more than three circles touching. Drawings are made often in a public space utilizing time that would otherwise be spent doing nothing (waiting for a train, drinking coffee, etc). I work on a cluster of circles until I am interrupted. Once interrupted, I must stop that form and begin working on a new one on the same page. I then accumulate these drawings in the studio and put finishing touches on them by outlining each form. I do not add to the forms or alter them after I bring them back to the studio. The bags are displayed together on the wall as an accumulation of time.
