My story: A few years ago, I had full time job where I was really unhappy. In my spare time from work I would be so exhausted I never had the energy to go into my studio. I felt the life being sucked out of my art career by a job that was supposed to help pay for my studio. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I really wanted to do with my income-earning life. What I really wanted to do was to make art and sell it. Once that decision was made, I spent every spare minute I had looking for opportunities to show my work. I became an expert at finding places that list calls for art. I combed through the listings and applied to 10 shows in under 2 months. I got into 9 of the 10 shows I applied to.
What I learned in that period was how to decipher these listings, how to find what is right for my work and how to organize my images and files to make it as easy as possible when applying. Add that to everything I learned in art school and running a gallery about how the art world works and I had a lot of success. Everything I learned is now available to you.
*Disclaimer: While every effort is made to assist artists in their career advancement, The Blank Project does not guarantee the placement of an artist's work in galleries or any other shows. It is up to the artist to take the information given and apply it to their career.
